GENEVA - The UN Secretary General, Mr Kofi Annan, called yesterday for negotiations to ban the production of nuclear bomb making material and for a global ban on landmines, which he denounced as "weapons of terror".

His speech to the Conference on Disarmament was echoed by Australian Foreign Minister, Mr Alexander Downer, who announced his country was donating $3 million for demining in Cambodia and Mozambique.
