The chairman of the Northwestern Regional Fisheries Board, Mr John Walkin, has called for a re-evaluation of the way Irish angling is promoted overseas by fisheries boards and tourism bodies.

Mr Walkin, a former chairman of Ireland West Tourism, called on the Government to support the setting up of regional bodies to promoting angling.

He urged all anglers to register specimen fish. "It is time to have professional people involved in the promotion of angling."
