Villagers living next to the site of the Battle of the Boyne in Co Louth have called for the establishment of an independent body to review decisions on land zonings.

The call from residents in Tullyallen has come in the wake of a decision by Louth councillors to rezone 3.5 hectares in the village against the advice of the county manager and the senior planner.

A meeting of the Tullyallen Public Forum has been told that the Local Area Plan cannot be changed or overturned and An Bord Pleanála does not rule on zonings but deals solely with appeals related to planning permissions. Tullyallen is adjacent to the Battle of the Boyne site.
