Freetown - Anarchy gripped the capital of Sierra Leone yesterday as Nigerianled peacekeeping troops tightened the noose around the unrecognised army junta.

The Brussels-based International Crisis Group, quoting its representatives in Freetown, said the junta leaders were at a run-down beach hotel outside the city. The head of the junta, Lieut-Col Johnny Paul Koroma, was "thought to be plotting an escape, possibly to Liberia".
