The former Fine Gael Taoiseach and recently nominated EU ambassador to Washington, Mr John Bruton, is to address a conference in Dublin's Mansion House tomorrow organised by the Reform Movement.
The Reform Movement wants Ireland to rejoin the Commonwealth of Nations and a change in the Constitution "to reflect the multi-cultural, increasingly secular Irish Republic".
Tomorrow's conference will be opened by the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Labour councillor Mr Michael Conaghan.
Other speakers include the British ambassador Mr Stewart Eldon, Cllr Chris McGimpsey of the Ulster Unionist Party, Irish News columnist Roy Garland, Sunday Independent columnist Eoghan Harris, Mr James Devenney, joint chairman of An Foras Teanga and chairman of the Ulster Scots Agency in the Republic.
The Irish Times Religious Affairs Correspondent Patsy McGarry, Prof Brian Girvin of the University of Glasgow, Prof Geoffrey Roberts of UCC, and political analyst Mr Simon Partridge will also be speaking at the conference.
Sessions will be chaired by historian and writer Dr Ruth Dudley Edwards, Irish Independent columnist Bruce Arnold, Mrs Julitta Clancy of the Meath Peace Group, Mr David Nelligan, formerly of the Department of Foreign Affairs, and Mr Derek Simpson of Reform.
