ALGIERS - At least six people were killed and 71 injured in four explosions in Algiers yesterday, four days before the official start of the Algerian election campaign, according to security services.
A carbomb exploded outside a restaurant in the coastal Bordj el Kiffan suburb, killing at least five people and wounding 30. The blast was heard across the city.
Earlier, three bomb blasts killed one person and wounded 41 others. Security forces said one person died and 12 were wounded after a carbomb went off in the El Biar suburban area, near the justice ministry and several diplomatic residences.
A bomb which went off minutes earlier near a discotheque in a zoological park in the Ben Aknoun quarter injured 20 people, three seriously. Another blast near the law faculty of a university in the same quarter injured nine people.
