An Algerian man appeared in court yesterday charged in connection with an alleged counterfeiting operation in Dublin.

Mr Farid Baukhalfa (42), of Harold's Cross Road, Dublin, was charged under the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act, 2001, with possession of instruments for the making of false documents.

Garda Ronan Clogher, Rathmines, told Dublin District Court he arrested the accused at Harold's Cross yesterday morning. Garda Clogher objected to bail because the accused had used four different names, including one for which he had a false French passport.

Det Garda Jim Doyle, from the Garda National Bureau of Immigration, told the court the passport had been examined and transpired to be counterfeit. Judge Miriam Malone remanded Mr Baukhalfa in custody to Cloverhill District Court on August 19th.
