The Garda and RUC have been warned that an Irish prisoner, described as "dangerous", has escaped from custody while attending a Birmingham hospital. It is the second time that Terence McDonagh (22), believed to be from Cork, has escaped police custody.

In 1997, he escaped while being taken to a magistrates' court in Coventry. He was serving six years for aggravated burglary and indecently assaulting an 83-year-old woman. He was recaptured by gardai and extradited to the UK.
