A Filipino seaman airlifted from a Swedish freighter 180 miles off the south-west coast of Ireland was yesterday described as being in a stable condition at Cork University Hospital.

The man, who had complained of stomach pains, was airlifted off the car freighter and brought to the hospital by an RAF helicopter.
