Beijing - Onboard security men foiled an attempted hijack of a Xinhua Airline aircraft carrying 143 passengers from Inner Mongolia to Beijing yesterday and killed the hijacker with his own knife, airport officials said.

The man had attempted to seize the Boeing 737 aircraft on a flight from Baotou, the second-largest city in Inner Mongolia. An airport official said the man rushed into the cockpit and stabbed the captain, then struggled with onboard security men as the co-pilot made an emergency landing in Jinan Airport in Shandong province.
