Philadelphia - Despite years of research, medical science has made little progress towards an AIDS vaccine capable of eliminating the threat of HIV infection, researchers have said.

Human antibodies needed to fight diseases such as smallpox and polio are outwitted by a HIV virus that quickly mutates into forms which elude the normal bodily defenses against outside intruders. Some researchers believe an effective vaccine could still be years.
