ISLAMABAD - Afghan government jets bombed the rebel Taliban held eastern city of Jalalabad yesterday, killing at least 12 people and wounding 50, a Pakistan based Afghan news service said.

Afghan military sources in the strategic government held town of Sarobi said government forces had laid mines on the eastern highway from Jalalabad to the capital, Kabul, to block any Taleban advance. All eight UN international staff later left Jalalabad by road for neighbouring Pakistan, a UN official said.
