Aer Lingus has today called for a resolution to the row over its proposed cost-cutting plan, which is expected to reduce operating costs by €97 million before the end of 2011.

The proposals were announced on October 7th and has been the subject of negotiation under the Labour Relations Commission (LRC).

The National Implementation Body (NIB) will review progress in the talks today.

The plan includes more than 670 job losses at the company, changes to work practices and and an average 10 per cent pay cut for staff whose basic pay exceeds €35,000 a year.

Aer Lingus said it was holding a board meeting tomorrow to decide on how to proceed with alternative ways of delivering the necessary savings in the same timeframe, should agreement not be reached.

"We acknowledge that savings have been offered however it is critical that savings must be delivered in a full and meaningful way from 2010 and not deferred beyond the timeframe of the Plan. This has not been the case so far," said chief executive Christoph Mueller.

"We remain committed to the negotiation process today to ensure that agreement can be achieved to urgently deliver the required savings in full."

The airline previosuly said it may have to introduce additional job losses , possibly compulsory in some cases, if no agreement was reached with trade unions.
