A drug addict who tried to sell heroin to a plainclothes garda has had his sentence adjourned by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. James Brennan (21), of Briarfield Road, Kilbarrack, Dublin, was caught with £300 worth of heroin at Edenmore Shopping Centre in June, 1998. Brennan also pleaded guilty to a charge of robbery and the unlawful possession of a car in July 1998.

Det Garda Paul Keaney said Brennan had previous convictions dating from 1991 including larceny and offences under the Misuse of Drugs Act. Judge Elizabeth Dunne also heard Brennan robbed £100 from an off-licence in Malahide one month later.

Judge Dunne agreed with an application by Mr Luigi Rea, defending, to remand Brennan on continuing bail and adjourn sentencing in order for him to continue attending a drug rehabilitation project. Judge Dunne ordered an updated probationary report for January 26th and told Brennan that if he transgressed in any way in the meantime, he would go to prison.
