Former Ulster Defence Association leader Johnny Adair is due to appear at Bolton Magistrates Court today charged with assaulting his wife.
Adair (41), of Chorley New Road, Bolton, was arrested on Monday and charged last night following an incident in Horwich.
Police were called to Old Station Park on Winter Hey Lane after reports that a woman was being assaulted.
Another man was arrested at the scene and charged with drink driving.
