A businessman who claimed to own part of the "seagrounds and shores" of Woodstown strand in Co Waterford, yesterday lost his High Court attempt to prevent the granting of an aquaculture licence to a marine equipment supplier.

Mr James O'Sullivan, of Knockboy, Waterford, was refused an order quashing a decision of the Aquaculture Licences Appeals Board to grant a licence to Woodstown Bay Shellfish Ltd, owned by Mr Paul Barlow, of Winfield, Circular Road, Dunmore East.
