GARDAÍ SAY they are checking out several different names which they believe have been used by a mystery woman who is before the courts.
The 30-year-old woman, before the courts in Donegal as Diane Connelly regarding €11,000 theft and fraud charges, is still under investigation under a number of other names, Judge Conal Gibbons was told yesterday.
The woman’s solicitor, Paudge Dorrian, said she was already serving two years imposed in Tralee, Co Kerry, under her married name of McDonald.
He added: “Apparently the authorities have some difficulty with her names.”
The judge said it wasn’t unusual for a woman to use her married and pre-marital names on different occasions.
He wondered why it was taking the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) so long to proceed with the case since the charges seemed to have been preferred as far back as last May.
However, Garda Insp David Murphy told Letterkenny District Court: “Certainly, we have difficulties.”
He added: “A file went to the DPP last week and there are a number of names being investigated. It’s very complicated.”
The case was further adjourned to Letterkenny court on September 11th for directions from the DPP and the woman was remanded in custody.
The woman, charged as Diane Connelly, Sheskinarone, Dungloe, Co Donegal, is accused of presenting three forged cheques for a total of €8,000 at an AIB branch in Dungloe between October 20th and December 3rd last year.
She is also accused of two separate thefts totalling €3,000 from Daniel Walsh at Sheskinarone on April 8th and December 1st, 2008.
The court was not told how she was pleading to the charges.
