The Tanaiste has expressed disappointment that the council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland has not agreed to her request to have her Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment monitor its inquiry. Ms Harney said that the inquiry, under the chairmanship of Mr Justice Blayney, is to investigate the conduct of members of the institute named in the Dunnes payments tribunal.

Ms Harney warned that if the inquiry, or any other inquiries arising from the tribunal report, established that members of the accountancy profession had contravened the companies acts, a prosecution could result.
