LONDON - Westminster Abbey, one of Britain's most popular tourist attractions, will start charging an entry fee in August to relieve overcrowding, the Observer reported yesterday.

Church officials feel they need to deter the crowds to retain the sanctity of the church but people who convince stewards that they want to pray will be allowed in free, it said.
