There are 63,000 unlicensed vehicles on the roads in Northern Ireland, the majority of which are over MOT age, according to a new report by the Assembly's Public Accounts Committee. The report, Road Safety in Northern Ireland, criticises the Department of the Environment for not producing a new road-safety plan to deliver improvements on a poor road-safety record.
The report found that the target set in 1989 for reducing the number of people killed and seriously injured on the roads by the end of 2000 was unlikely to be achieved.
