SOME 47 RUC officers have used their police guns to kill themselves since 1970.
The Northern Ireland Security Minister, Sir John Wheeler, said in a parliamentary written reply yesterday that 39 regular RUC officers and 16 full-time reservists committed suicide between 1970 and 1996.
He added: "A personal protection firearm was used as a means of committing suicide in 47 cases."
