Nouakchott - Thirty-one people, mainly Mauritanian soldiers, were killed when a military aircraft crashed late yesterday at Nema in the far south of the country, reliable sources said.

The aircraft crashed as it took off from Nema airport in a sandstorm, the sources said. It was carrying 33 people, most of them members of the army brass band.
