Some 300 protesters have dumped rubbish on the steps of Limerick City Hall in protest against the decision to introduce private refuse collection in the city.

Limerick Against Refuse Charges warned yesterday it would picket political clinics and attend every city council meeting until the corporation agreed to resume refuse collections and drop the charges.

City residents now have to pay £120 a year for the private bin collection.
