Three of a party of four who visited a McDonald's fastfood restaurant finished off their meal with a piece of apple pie and contracted food poisoning, a court has been told.

Judge Raymond Groarke in Dublin Circuit Civil Court said it would be stretching credibility to hold that the source of infection was anything other than the apple pie. None of the plaintiffs had eaten identical food within the 48 hours prior to their meal in McDonald's at Artane Castle, Dublin.

He awarded Ms Siobhan Maguire, Mr Kim McNally and Mr Noel Byrne, all from Upper Drumcondra Road, Dublin, £3,000 damages each.
