Bogota - Clashes between left-wing rebels and right-wing paramilitaries killed 3,289 civilians in Colombia between January 1999 and last November, the army commander, Gen Jorge Mora said on Monday.

According to Gen Mora, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) were responsible for 1,693 of those deaths, and the rightwing Colombian Self-Defence Units for 1,596.
