Some 20,000 cigarettes, with a street value of £3,000, have been seized from a Polish-registered ship at Greenore, Co Louth, by the Customs Mobile Task Unit and gardai.
The seven crew members were questioned jointly by the Customs officers and gardai but later released. A fine was imposed on the ship.
The cigarettes are believed to have been destined for the local market.
