Biliri - At least 27 people were killed, scores were wounded and five policemen were missing after a clash between villagers and a band of cattle thieves in north-east Nigeria, witnesses said last night.

A group of cattle thieves entered the village of Biliri in Gombe State early on Tuesday and began untying the villagers' cattle.
