Srinagar - Twenty-five people including two Indian soldiers and 21 Muslim separatist rebels, have been killed in gun battles in India's troubled Kashmir state, police said yesterday.
"An encounter took place between militants and security forces at Kreri in which 10 militants were killed. One security force soldier laid down his life and another official sustained injuries," a police statement said. A defence spokesman said seven separatists belonging to the pro-Pakistan Jaish-eMohammed were killed by security forces after a 90minute gun battle.
The clash occurred yesterday to the north of Jammu, he said.
On Monday evening an Indian soldier and two "foreign" militants were killed in another clash in north Kashmir, police said. They said four people including two militants were killed elsewhere in separate shoot-outs.
