Twenty people were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation after a fire broke out in a block of flats in York Street, Dublin, early this morning.

The blaze started on the top floor of the complex at around 12.15 a.m. Five units of Dublin fire brigade attended the scene. The occupants, including a number of children, were taken to St James's Hospital and Our Lady's Hospital, Crumlin. Their condition was described as not being serious.

Earlier, Handel's Hotel, Fishamble Street, Dublin was evacuated shortly after 9.40 p.m. last night when a fire broke out in a third-floor bedroom. Around 200 drinkers were cleared from the hotel bar.
