MOSCOW - Fourteen people were injured when a man threw a hand grenade during a $2 bank robbery in the Siberian town of Novokuznetsk, ITARTASS news agency reported.

A man aged about 40 walked into a local branch of the state Sberbank, brandishing a hand grenade and demanded money, ITAR TASS said.

When the cashier gave him 10,000 rubles (about $2), he began to leave. But when a guard tried to apprehend the man, he let off the grenade and apparently escaped.

ITAR-TASS said that 14 people were taken to hospital. Two victims had serious injuries, including one personries, whose life was in danger. Police were hunting the assailant, the news agency said.
