A Cork electronics manufacturing company has announced it is to close, with the loss of 120 jobs. This brings the total job loss at Surfacemount Technology Centre (SMTC) to 200, following 80 redundancies earlier this month.
The decision follows news that an administrator had been appointed to the plant’s main Britain-based customer, Simoco.
Staff and unions were informed of the closure this evening.
SMTC’s Donegal facility remains unaffected by the Cork closure. A company spokesman told ireland.com that European operations for the company will continue through the Donegal plant.
