Some €107 million was dispensed through the Irish banks' ATM system between January 1st and 3rd through one million customer withdrawals, according to the Irish Bankers Federation (IBF) estimates.
The volume of ATM withdrawals is 10 per cent to 20 per cent higher than normal, the IBF said.
It also said that the conversion of 1,100 ATMs, 40,000 point-of-sale terminals and internet and telephone banking systems were all converted in time for the new currency.
An estimated €75 million worth of business was transacted by customers over the three-day period at retail points of sale using laser and credit cards in a further one million transactions, according to the IBF.
