Lagos - More than 100 people died in last week's Nigerian ethnic clashes which have brought fears of a backlash elsewhere in Africa's most populous country, residents said yesterday. Nigerians tried to flee potential ethnic trouble spots yesterday after the rioting in Lagos.

Police Commissioner Mr Mike Okiro said the death toll in two days of violence in the Lagos suburb of Ketu between local Yorubas and northern Hausas had risen to 50, but residents said they had counted more than 100 dead.
