Investigations were continuing last night into the cause of a fire at an industrial estate outside Wexford town, which has left up to 100 people out of work.

Garda technical experts were trying to establish the cause of the fire which destroyed three businesses and extensively damaged several others at Kerlogue Industrial Estate in Drinagh.

Wednesday night's fire is believed to have started in the laundry area of a factory block containing up to 20 units. About 100 people working at the unit were without work yesterday morning, and temporary job losses are expected to ensue.

The alarm was raised at 8.30 p.m. by a security guard who had arrived to carry out a spot check.

One fireman was taken to hospital and discharged later.
