A catering assistant who was left with puckered skin on her hands after accidentally steam-ironing her fingers was yesterday awarded £10,500 in damages.

Judge Liam Devally said in the Circuit Civil Court that Ms Louise Eastwood (22), of Crumlin, Dublin, had in an emergency situation been asked by her employers, Campbell Catering Ltd, to steam-iron table napkins.

Judge Devally said the injuries were serious, painful and distressing and were now mainly cosmetic.
