With a name that could be as exhausting as anything you might do in it, this is the result of a collaboration project between Danish design brand Norse and Adidas. The shoe's tough outer has multiple, translucent welded layers and then a Gore-tex lining for breathable waterproofing. The sole is gripped with Continental Rubber, while its midsole features Adidas' Boost cushioning technology. Lace loops keep it securely fitted, and the whole shoe reflects typically pared-back Scandi detailing where tasteful discretion is a given. €170 norseprojects.com

If your adventures are going to take away from a safe water supply, the MSR Trailshot could be just the gadget. Its big selling point is, well, that it's small. Compact enough to slip into a pocket, it's robust enough to squeeze out 99.9 per cent of protozoa and bacteria for water that meets US EPA standards (though that's an organisation whose standards are under fire from the top right now). You can take water straight from a lake or river with a one-handed pump action that filters a litre a minute. And it resets easily with a few shakes to clean. €50 from greatoutdoors.ie
