Travel gear: a portable drive, a pocket projector and a power pack

LaCie Fuel
Preloading your tablet or laptop with enough movies to sustain you and the kids on the holidays can be quite an editing and curating task. LaCie's Fuel portable drive comes in 1 and 2TB versions (so you can bring the lot) and can create its own local network for up to five devices simultaneously. Made for Appleland, the Fuel will work with Apple TV and can act as a portable wireless router if you need. Uploading material is as easy as dragging the files onto the Fuel as it simply appears as a drive on your desktop. €70 for 1TB model from lacie.com/ie

Brookstone Pocket Projector
Whether to let you whip out an impromptu PowerPoint or to conjure up your own scaled-down Cinema Paradiso, Brookstone's travel projector is undeniably portable and virtually pocketable. It can throw up 1080P HD video to give the equivalent of a 60 inch screen and take a feed from any HDMI device. Brookstone claims it will give two hours from a full charge, so if you're scheduling a lengthy epic showing you'll need it powered in. $299.99 from brookstone.com

PocketCell Duo
As the stash of personal electronics we're travelling with grows (oops, see above), so too the range of portable power packs. Innergie's PocketCell Duo party trick (as the name on the tin suggests) is that you can recharge two devices at the one time, like a tablet and a smartphone. With the battery pack's twin USB ports allowing it to deliver 6,800mAh, the PocketCell Duo is an ultra-compact 132gms and it's smart too. It automatically senses the sort of gadget you're trying to charge and adapts its output to match. $80 from myinnergie.com
