The liner, which plied the Atlantic in the early 19th century, saw deaths in its day and some troubled souls apparently remain including two men crushed by the engine-room door. The cries of children who drowned in the pool have been reported. Now docked as a hotel, the Queen Mary embraces its spectres with tours and horror shows. Doubles from $88 (€65).

Dining is in the 13th-century dungeon. Doubles from £120 (€143).
