Travel is only glamorous in retrospect, Paul Theroux once grumbled. He might be grumpy, but he’s right: the adventures we have generally get better in the re-telling.

On the Travel Show, you’ll hear tales of adventure and discovery from all over the globe, plus tips, suggestions and recommendations. Hosted by well-known travel writer Fionn Davenport, the Travel Show is your weekly appointment for all things related to travel both at home and abroad.

For the first edition of The Travel Show, Fionn chats to Eoin McDevitt of Second Captains and Irish Times columnist, Una Mullally, about Catalunya. Eoin spent the weekend in Barcelona, where he climbed La Sagrada Familia, saw FC Barcelona win 4-0 and found an Irish bar so he could watch Ireland’s last-minute heartbreak against New Zealand. Una explored rural Catalunya – and discovered there was as much to do outside the big city as there was inside it.

The show’s producer, Sinead O’Shea, donned her journalistic hat and told Fionn about her trip to Iran – why it’s such a fascinating country but not for a woman travelling alone.

Finally, Fionn opened himself to accusations of nepotism by roping his Florentine mum to do a walking tour of her native city so that he could record her impressions.
