Developed by a pair of UK inventors, the Paravelo Flying Bike doesn’t fly all by itself, but acts like a powered paraglider. Or a “a flying ultralight para-trike aircraft”. The tri-blade fan is driven by a two-stroke engine for an airspeed of about 36 kph (25 mph). The fan can also be detached and strapped onto your back for use as a powered-paraglider without the bike. You need to be trained to try any of this and conditions and limitations apply. Not least of all, the price. $45,000 hammacher.com

Google maps with bike route elevation

Ireland was among a number of European countries which had cycling routes added to Google Maps last year. The routes depend on reported feedback to keep them up to the level of detail cyclists need, however Google has now introduced a significant upgrade: elevation. So you can plan your route and know where you'll feel the burn. Only runs on desktop at the moment. Free as part of Google Maps
