BUNDORAN EVENTS

As part of the ongoing series of free family events in Bundoran, Discover Bundoran presents Lemrac Puppet Productions with The Three Little Pigs (right) this Sunday at 1.30pm and 2.20pm at the playground beside Waterworld. A puppet-making workshop will also take place in the cafe area of Waterworld between 3.30pm and 5pm.

CORK MILITARY SHOW

The grounds of Cork City Gaol will provide a piece of living history this Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 6pm, when a military show takes place including live battles, re-enactments, a military vehicle display, archery, military traders and dealers. Visitors are encouraged to dress up with a particular emphasis on the glamour of the 1930s and 1940s, and there is a prize for the best outfit. FREE SCREENING

The Sugar Club in Dublin presents a free midnight screening tonight of Bruce Robinson’s 1987 cult classic Withnail I (above). Doors open at 11pm, and admission is free before 12 or €5 afterwards, and this includes admission to the club night. thesugarclub.com

IRISH GREYHOUND DERBY

The opening heats of the richest Greyhound race in Europe, the Ladbrokes Irish Greyhound Derby, take place tonight and tomorrow night at Dublin’s Shelbourne Park. General admission to the track costs €10 on the night (€3 for under 12s and €5 for students) and the first of 11 races gets under way at 7.55pm.

LISDOONVARNA FESTIVAL

The two-day Lisdoonvarna festival kicks off tonight in the Co Clare town, with nine bands playing, including Niwel Tsumbu, A Band Called Wanda and Secret Weapon. All gigs take place at the Pavilion, and start at 8pm. Tickets are €10 and proceeds go to the charity Haven for Haiti. 087-8300069

CARLOW FLORAL FESTIVAL

Today, Dermot O’Neill leads a talk on developing an edible garden at 2pm in the Arboretum Lifestyle and Garden Centre in Leighlinbridge. At noon tomorrow, Helen Dillon gives a workshop focusing on planting and borders at the Rathwood Home and Garden World in Tullow. Admission is free to both events. ROSS ISLAND COPPER MINES

This walking trail follows the Bronze-Age copper mines dating to 2,500 BC, and located close to the magnificent 14th-century Ross Castle (above), about a mile from Killarney town. The main mining shaft is still preserved, and much flora and fauna is also on view, as well as information panels en route. The castle is fully refurbished and guided tours are also available. SWEENEY TODD

Accompanied by an ensemble cast and 30-piece orchestra, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street (left) is presented by the Cork Operatic Society at the Everyman Palace Theatre tonight, tomorrow and Sunday, at 8pm. It stars Michael Sands and Cara O’Sullivan, with musical direction by John O’Brien. Tickets are €25/€20. everymanpalace.com

EIREBALL RUN

This week-long convoy of classic Volkswagen cars around Ireland starts tomorrow in Arklow and moves on to Armagh on Sunday. To date, the event has raised more than €30,000 for charity, and this year, the main benefactors will be the Share A Dream Foundation and the Haven Partnership. TULLAMORE SHOW

Described as the country’s largest one-day show with agriculture as the main focus. Other elements, though, have been incorporated over the years, such as home industries, fashion and even the performing arts. There is lots of free parking on the day, and tickets are €15 for adults and €10 for students. Children under 14 are free. The show begins at 9am. tullamoreshow.com

MOVIE EXTRAS

Tomorrow in Dublin’s Westbury Hotel from 11am until 6pm, members of the public have the chance to join a movie extras database. The company, movieextras.ie, regularly provides extras for film and television work. Registration for the photo shoot costs €99 and includes two photos taken by photographer Harry Weir.
