SKIBBEREEN CHOIRS

Tonight, as part of the Skibbereen Arts Festival, a traditional Gaelic choirs night will be held at Abbeystrewry Church, featuring Ar Thaobh a’ Leithid from the Donegal Gaeltacht and Cúil Aodha, founded by Seán Ó Riada. It promises to be an evening ‘presenting Gaelic music in its truest sense’. The concert starts at 8pm and tickets cost €15. skibbereenartsfestival.com

KILKENNY CYCLING TOURS

A new tour is offering visitors a chance to visit historical and cultural sites in the city by bicycle. It runs at 10am and 2pm seven days a week, and the cost is €15 per adult and €10 per child. LONGFORD FARMERS’ MARKET

Held every Friday in the Market Square in Longford town, this market has been going for six years. All the produce is from the local area, including Shirley O’Halleran’s free-range eggs and the Kearns Organic Growers’ range of fruit, vegetables and herbs. The market runs from 9.30am to 2pm. MEDIEVAL DALKEY

Actors from Dellg Inis Theatre Company bring medieval history to life at Dalkey Castle for the rest of the summer, with performances every half hour. Numbers are limited, so visitors are asked to check availability before arriving. Open from 10am-6pm daily, except Tuesdays. Admission is €6 for adults and €4 for children. dalkeycastle.com

BALLYSHANNON FOLK

This 33rd annual folk festival kicks off tomorrow and runs until Sunday, featuring the likes of Kíla, Lunasa and Andy Irvine, as well as markets, pub trails and workshops.
