Throughout her teens, British actor Helena Grace Donald kept her battle with bulimia a secret.
“As women, we feel like we have to have it all together and I thought that if I admitted was struggling, then I was somehow failing,” she says on the latest episode of The Women’s Podcast.
Since overcoming the disorder, Donald has written a book aimed at promoting body positivity in young girls, Learning to Love the Girl in the Mirror, and she also founded www.girlunfiltered.com/, an online support forum for teenagers struggling with body-related issues.
On the podcast, she details her battle with bulimia, the healing she went through to overcome it and the mental exercises she does to keep it at bay.
She also gives her views on the recent news that Weight Watchers are scrapping their “before and after” weight loss transformation photos and how parents can foster body-positivity in their children.
