Toe bone

Michigan man Jerry Douthett passed out after drinking several beers and margaritas in glasses the “size of fishbowls”, and woke up to discover his dog had chewed off his big toe. Kiko the Jack Russell gnawed off his master’s digit, which had been infected. At the hospital, it was then discovered that, in addition to a hangover, Douthett was also suffering from diabetes. The remainder of the toe was amputated. The dog-owner now credits his terrier for saving him from gangrene. Neighbours may be watching the dog a little more closely now when he is out on his walks.

Japan, a country that claims to have the world’s oldest people, this week admitted it wasn’t sure if most of its centenarians are still livingor not. Fusa Furuya (113), officially the oldest person in Tokyo, cannot be found. Her daughter says she has not seen her for half a century. Her absence came to light as Japan prepares for next month’s Respect for the Elderly day.
