DEBORAH GIBBS,from Portsmouth in England, and David O'Sullivan, from Killarney, Co Kerry, were married on October 3rd in the Catholic church in the Andalucian town of Nerja, on the Spanish Mediterranean coast, by the local priest, Fr Andres.
Deborah is the daughter of Bill and Margaret Gibbs and has one brother, Simon. The wedding provided their first trip outside England. Since leaving school, she has worked with horse trainers including David Elsworth and Mick Channon, and in Australia for the noted trainer, Bart Cummings.
Her bridesmaids were Nadine Radbourne and Abigail McKay, old friends who were a brilliant support to her on the day.
David is the son of Gerard and Charlotte O’Sullivan from Killarney, and he has two sisters, Tracey O’Sullivan and Cara Kumah, both nurses. He went to school in Killarney with his best man, Brian Regan, and trained as a chef in order to take over his family’s restaurant in Killarney. Before settling down, however, he decided to travel and his interest in racehorses also led him to Bart Cummings’s stables in Australia, where he worked for three years and met Debbie. They became engaged when they returned to live in Ireland in 2003 and although it was a long engagement, it ended happily in the Spanish sun.
The wedding party moved between the hotel, beach and church, which were within 200-metres of each other. David thanked all the Cork guests for coming to another Kerry celebration. The reception began with flamenco dancers, followed by a live band, and singing by David’s brother-in-law Patrick Kumah and their friend, Colm Ó Súilleabháin.
Debbie and David are now living near Killarney, where they have built a house and stables for their horses, and they run the Caragh Restaurant in Killarney. They plan to go back to Australia in January for their honeymoon.
