Pluriel joins recall list over leak

Citroën is to recall C3 Pluriel models over problems with rain leaking through the roof the soft-top cars. The car was introduced here in June last year and over 70 are registered here.

So far the French firm has identified 32 of these that require attention. However, Pat Byrne, Citroën's national service manager, say that this number could increase in the coming weeks. "At present we are rectifying the problem in our stock of unsold cars and we will then be contacting customers in the coming weeks to come in to their dealers to get the roof seals fixed."

Repairs are likely to take up to a day and involve replacing seals at the windscreen, boot and door apertures.

Meanwhile, one of the best-selling cars in Europe seems to be rather keen on totting up the mileage. Peugeot is recalling 307 models produced between March 2003 and February this year for a fault in the tachometer which is recording erratic mileage.

The recall, which will affect 1,917 Irish registered cars, is sure to cause embarrassment to the French firm, given the models success in European markets.

A spokesperson for the firm in Ireland says the problem is with a piece of corrupt software. The recall requires new information to be downloaded at the dealership, a 30-minute operation says Peugeot. The modification will be carried out at local Peugeot dealerships at no cost to the owners. Recall letters were sent out to owners last week and a further check will be carried out in the coming weeks as to the response.

In both instances, the manufacturers arekeen to highlight that no safety issues are involved.
