Jim Fisher, chairman and director of training of the Irish Rider Training Association and medically certified a bike nut or connoisseur of two wheels, depending on your point of view
What was your first machine? On the fields, a James Captain 175. I was about 10 or 11 at the time but riding since I was about 6. On the road - on my 16th birthday - a Vellocette LE 200 hand change; it was called a noddy bike because the local village cop would ride one.
What attracted you to it? If you have to ask you'll never understand. It's like malaria - once you have it you'll never get rid of it. You can only control it. But it's the freedom, fresh air, traffic beating, individualism and comradery etc.
How much did it cost? I think it was £20 sterling . . . I was earning £6 1 a week.
Your current machine? A Honda Pan European ST1100 - cop bike.
What did it cost? IR£6,500.
What did the insurance cost? IRL£240 fully comprehensive.
What do you use the machine for? Everything, ride to work, rider training, pleasure, touring and anything else seven days a week.
How much did you spend on gear? Thousands over the years thousands - but, at present : Schubert helmet €340, Biko jacket €160 (special offer), leather trousers €150, GT Trophy police boots €270, Chatterbox bike-to-bike radios €540, gloves €70 and sundry other items to around €100.
What's your next upgrade likely to be? A brand new Honda Pan European ST X 1300 - more grunt, more comfort . . . just moreeeeeeeee!
