BMW’s big SUV is now actually its medium-sized SUV since the arrival of the elephantine X7. But while the X7 is divisively enormous, the X5 remains handsome, if a touch on the large side.

That largeness doesn’t necessarily extend to the interior though - while those in the front revel in genuine luxury and exceptional quality, those in the back will be a touch cramped, to say nothing of those sat in the optional third-row foldaway seats.

Then again, a BMW has long been a car selfishly designed around the person sat behind the wheel, and the X5 delivers here. It's still arguably the best large SUV to drive.
