Tens of thousands of Irish people living in the US will be affected by President Barack Obama's plans for temporary immigration reform measures to assist undocumented immigrants, announced last night.

The proposals include a relaxation of restrictions allowing qualifying Irish immigrants to travel between the US and Ireland. This means they will be able to return to Ireland for the first time in many years without fear of being denied re-entry into the US.

If you are one of the 50,000 Irish people living without papers in the US, we want to hear from you. What will the announcement mean to you, and to your family in the US and in Ireland? Are you already making plans to come back for a visit? Or are you wary that the reforms won’t go ahead, or will be overturned? Will you be applying when the system opens in spring next year?
