Plan for Stillorgan Road apartments appealedProperty developer Seán Dunne's controversial plan to turn apartments in a private development in south Dublin into student accommodation has been appealed to An Bord Pleanála.
Last month Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council gave the developer the green light to turn eight apartments in the Merrion Grove apartment scheme on the Stillorgan Road, Co Dublin, into student accommodation.
The Merrion Grove Management Company has appealed that decision to An Bord Pleanála. It argues that the transient and temporary nature of student accommodation will have a negative impact on the residents by way of increased demand for car-parking, noise and nuisance. Dunne's plans would also result in an unacceptable intensification of use, according to Merrion Grove Management Company.
Councillor critical of scheme for former Smurfit HQ
New plans for the former Smurfit headquarters in Clonskeagh have been criticised by a local councillor.
Pamerette Ltd, in a joint venture with UCD, is seeking permission to build 17 apartment blocks, three office blocks and community facilities at the 5.5-hectare site on Beech Hill Road and adjoining UCD's Belfield campus.
The scheme is "too dense, impacts too negatively on existing residents and does not create an improved environment", according to Cllr Dermot Lacey in a letter of objection to the council.
The plan is also premature because it seeks to develop one part of the campus before final agreement has been reached on the overall campus plan that is now nearing completion, he added.
The development will result in a major increase in traffic flows and, as such, is "dangerous, badly located and unsafe", he said.
Council gives green light for Carrickmines development
Planners at Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council have given the green light for an apartment scheme in Carrickmines, Dublin 18. The planning permission is for a 121-apartment scheme in three five and six-storey blocks on a 1.25-hectare site on the Glenamuck Road. Developer Fermar Ltd has also been given approval to build four detached houses on the site.
Meanwhile, more apartments for Northern Cross, Malahide, are in the pipeline. Spectrum Developments Ltd is due to lodge a planning application for 107 apartments and six retail/office units beside the new Hilton Hotel adjacent to the City Junction Business Park in Dublin 18.
